Most treks in the in this area start from Pokhara 92 miles west of Kathmandu. The Pokhara valley lies
in the Shadow of the spectacular Annapurna Range. From the
valley numerous trekking routs ascend to the Annapurna
Sanctuary, a huge basin in the senator of the Annapurna
Range or up the Kali Gandaki Valley to Muktinath or Mustang.
The Annapurna circuit trek takes a long and strenuous route
around the north side of the Annapurna Range via the Thorong
La addition to longer treks, there are also excellent short
all seasons treks in the Pokhara area.
Getting there :
Regardless
of the trek chosen it is most likely that Pokhara will be
enter the starting or ending point of your trek. Pokhara is
located 200km west of Kathmandu and can be reached by bus in
five to six hours or by flight in thirty minutes from the
capital.
Trekking Styles :
Most of the trekking routes in the Annapurna region are well
serviced by Teahouse for most of their length. This is
particularly true for the most popular treks the Jomsom
trek, the Annapurna circuit , the Annapurna sanctuary and
Ghorepani, the short trek Ghorepani throughout Ghandruk .
The treks in less developed areas, particularly the
Dhaulagiri circuit and the treks start of Lamjung,
definitely require trekkers to be self sufficient in food
and shelter.
People and culture
The most prominent
ethic in the groups in the Annapurna region is the Gurungs,
Thakali, and Mangngba. The Gurungs are the most widely
distributed being found from the hills of Gorkha district to
as Far West as Palpa. The Thakali come from the upper Kali
Gandaki Valley around Jomsom where their traditional forming
has been supplement by trade and, in particular, hotel and
restaurant business.
