The area
to the east of the Annapurna massif contains the peaks of
the Manaslu group. Beside Manaslu, the most prominent of
the peaks are Buddha Himal and Himal Chuli, both of which
can be seen from many viewpoints between Kathmandu and
Pokhara.
The
Manaslu circuit is one of the best remote area treks in
Nepal. The route sees relatively few trekkers and has not
been developed into a teahouse trek. A limited number of
teahouses are being encouraged by the Manaslu Conservation
Area Project but there can offer, at best, an alternative
on a few of the days during the trek. The route follows
the rugged gorge of the Budhi Gandaki for the first twelve
days before crossing the Larkya Pass and descending down
into the Marshangdi Khola. Larkya Pass is one of the
easier of the high passes in Nepal but heavy show can make
the route difficult especially on the western side where
deep show drifts are likely to be found.
After
Bimtang the trail follows Dudh Khola valley through some
magnificent stands of blue pine and rhododendron to join
the main Annapurna circuit trail at Dharapani on the
Marshyangdi River.
The
shortest way to complete the trek is then to continue on
downstream to Besi shara (see Annapurna circuit trek
description)
